Monday visitors of Vivian V. were Elizabeth Sanders Hansen and husband Gary Hansen of Lexington, Ky. Elizabeth is the daughter of Celia Elizabeth Mires Sanders. Celia was born in Alleene in 1915. Celia’s parents were Edward S. and Elizabeth (Lizzy) Patterson Mires. Lizzy Patterson Mires was the daughter of William Carroll Patterson and Elizabeth Francis Davis- Carley Patterson. William Carroll Patterson was a Civil War Veteran. Elizabeth and Gary Hansen are both retired and now researching their family roots. They were specifically interested in locating their ancestors acreage where their original home stood. Most folks do not know of Alleene having a Mires hill. Once a large apple orchard separated their property from their neighbors. Hoping they left with a wealth of information. It was great to visit with wonderful people.

On Saturday, the Jones and Keeney Families and their extended families met in the Alleene Community Center to welcome David Andrew (Andy) Johnes of near Reno, Nevada home. Those attending were: Andy Jones, Reno, NV; Robbie Jones, Robert Jones, Laura Jones, Amy Jones, Robert Jones II, Jason Jones, Karen Jones, Carsen Jones, Ethan Jones, Emaleigh Jones, Ella Jones, Brandon Witherspoon, Vivian V. The only niece Andy missed visiting with was Morgan Elizabeth Jones Varon, husband James Varon and their son Easton. They make their home in Seattle, Wa.

Everyone enjoyed the visiting and the food was great. Karen Jones’ father William Wood smoked the brisket and chicken which was fantastic. Everyone else prepared the other food. I must say our combined families are great cooks.

For the last three years our Fire Department has postponed our annual hayride. Well, our department has had several requests to continue. So get ready, one is scheduled for Oct. 20. Meeting place will be Fire house. The ride will leave at 5 p.m. Travel to Jones Camp on Little River for hot dogs and smores. The cost per person is $3. If your child is 12 years or under, he/she must be accompanied on the ride by an adult/parent. The rides are well chaperoned. Hope to see you there. If rained out, Oct. 27 will be hayride.

Our sick ones are on the mend.
