Regional Tournaments begin today

The postseason continues today as baseball and softball teams across the state begin Regional Tournament play.

The Foreman Lady Gators softball team will open play in the Class AA South Regional Tournament at Poyen at 12:30 p.m. today as they take on Parker’s Chapel.

The Ashdown Panther baseball team will open play in the Class AAAA South Regional Tournament at Malvern at 5:30 p.m. this afternoon as they take on Star City.

The Ashdown Panther softball team will open play in the Class AAAA South Regional Tournament at Malvern at 7:30 p.m. this evening as they take on Star City.

ASHDOWN BASEBALL

The Ashdown Panther baseball team earned a berth in this week’s Class AAAA South Regional Tournament at Malvern after winning two of its three games at last week’s 7AAAA District Tournament.

On Thursday, April 26, the Panthers defeated Fountain Lake 12-2.

At the plate, Alex Day was 1-for-4 with a double and two runs. Braylon Bishop was 2-for-3 with a double, a home run, three runs, three RBI and a walk. Jaden Hill was 3-for-4 with a double, a home run, a run and three RBI. Brett Bond was 1-for-4 with a run. Logan Henry was 2-for-4 with a run and two RBI. Bradley Bearden was 1-for-4 with two runs and a RBI. Cody Flowers walked. Blake Ritter was 1-for-3 with a double, a RBI and a walk. Will Burnett was 2-for-4 with a RBI. Tate Hooper scored two runs.

Hill allowed two runs, one earned, on four hits in six innings. He walked one, struck out 11 and gave up a home run.

On Friday, April 27, the Panthers fell, 5-2, to the Joe T. Robinson Senators.

At the plate, Day and Hill both walked. Bond was 1-for-4. Bearden was 1-for-3 with a walk. Flowers was 1-for-2 with a run, a RBI and a walk. Ritter was 1-for-2 with a double and a RBI. Burnett walked twice. Hopper scored a run.

On the mound, Bearden allowed five runs, one earned, on four hits in seven innings. He walked three, struck out seven and gave up a home run.

On Saturday, April 28, Ashdown took on Malvern in the third-place game. The Panthers defeated the Leopards, 14-3.

At the plate, Bearden was 2-for-3 with two runs and a RBI. Day was 3-for-4 with two home runs, including a grand slam, two runs and six RBI. Hill was 2-for-3 with a home run, two runs and a RBI. Bishop was 1-for-3 with a double. Henry was 1-for-2 with a run and a RBI. Bond was 1-for-4 with two runs. Flowers was 1-for-3 with a double, a RBI and a walk. Ritter was 1-for-4 with a run and a RBI. Burnett walked and scored a run. Hooper, Kaiden Hunter and Josh Ripley each scored a run.

On the mound, Bond allowed three runs, all earned, on four hits in four innings. He walked seven and struck out six. Flowers allowed no run and no hits in one inning. He struck out one.

The Panthers will return to action at 5:30 p.m. Thursday, May 3, in the first round of the Class AAAA South Regional Tournament at Malvern against the No. 2 seed from the 8AAAA.

ASHDOWN SOFTBALL

The Ashdown Panther softball team punched their ticket to this week’s Class AAAA South Regional Tournament at Malvern after winning two of three games in last week’s 7AAAA District Tournament.

The Panthers opened district tournament play on Thursday, April 26, with an 8-3 win over Malvern.

At the plate, Aleya Hill was 1-for-4 with two runs, a RBI and two walks. Lannah Huddleston was 2-for-4 with a double, a run and walk. Adaysia Thompson was 1-for-3 with a triple and a walk. Vonee Thomas scored a run. Kenya Wilson was 1-for-5 with a double and a RBI. Kara Earnest was 1-for-1 with a RBI and tree walks. Angelina McGinn had a RBI. Brittany Johnson was 1-for-4 with a double and a run. Brooklyn Smith was 2-for-3 with two runs. Porsha Randle scored a run.

Inside the circle, McGinn allowed three runs, two earned, on nine hits in seven innings. She walked none, struck out five and gave up a home run.

On Friday, April 27, Ashdown took on the top-ranked Bauxite Lady Miners. The Panthers gave it everything they had but feel short in the end, 5-2.

At the plate, Wilson was 1-for-3 with a run. Kara Earnest was 2-for-3 with a double, a home run, a run and two RBI.

Inside the circle, McGinn allowed five runs, three earned, on nine hits in six innings. She walked one, struck out two and gave up a home run.

On Saturday, April 28, the Panthers took on Mena in the third-place game. Ashdown defeated the Lady Bearcats, 2-1.

At the plate, Hill was 1-for-3 with a double and a RBI. Huddleston was 1-for-3. Jukarra Greenlee scored a run. Wilson was 1-for-3 with a RBI. Smith was 1-for-2 with a run scored.

Inside the circle, McGinn allowed one run on five hits in seven innings. She walked none and struck out four.

The Panthers will return to action at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, May 3, in the first round of the Class AAAA South Regional Tournament at Malvern against the No. 2 seed from the 8AAAA.

FOREMAN BASEBALL

On Tuesday, April 24, the Foreman Gators opened 7AA West District Tournament play at Magnet Cove High School. Despite a great effort at the plate and on the mound, Foreman lost to Mountain Pine, 4-3, and had its season come to a close.

At the plate, Alex Carver was 1-for-4 with a RBI. Chase Boyd was 1-for-3. CJ Green, Kaleb Smith and Quincy Robinson each scored a run. Zack Carver walked.

On the mound, Chase Gross allowed four runs, one earned, on three hits. He walked four and struck out 12 in 6.1 innings of work. Chance Gross allowed no runs and no hits in two-thirds inning of action. He struck out one.

The Gators end the season with an overall record of 9-16.

FOREMAN SOFTBALL

The Foreman Lady Gators opened 7AA West District Tournament play at Magnet Cove High School on Tuesday, April 24. Foreman defeated Cutter Morning Star 16-0. No stats were available for that game but with the win, the Lady Gators earn a berth in this week’s Class AA South Regional Tournament at Poyen.

On Thursday, April 26, Foreman played Poyen in the semifinals of the district tournament. The Lady Gators could not get their bats going as they finished the game with no hits in the 12-0 loss.

Inside the circle, Raichel Frye allowed eight runs, seven earned, off five hits in three innings. She walked two and struck out three. Raylei Merrell pitched the final inning. She allowed four runs, all earned, on four hits. She walked two.

On Friday, April 27, the Lady Gators took on Magnet Cove in the third-place game. Foreman won the game, 8-3.

At the plate, Sadie Staggs scored two runs. Frye was 2-for-4. Savannah Lovewell was 1-for-2 with a double and a RBI. Kaitlyn Roden was 1-for-4 with a RBI. Rebecca Webb was 1-for-4 with a run. Kenzie Cowan was 3-for-5 with a double, a home run, two runs and two RBI. Merrell had two RBI. Derricka Tallant was 1-for-3 with a run scored. Grace Gwin was 1-for-3 with two runs scored. Cheyene English was 1-for-1.

Inside the circle, Frye allowed three runs, all earned, on eight hits in seven innings. She walked one and struck out four.

The Lady Gators will open Class AA South Regional Tournament play at 12:30 p.m. Thursday, May 3, at Poyen High School against the No. 2 seed from the 7AA East Conference.
