ASHDOWN BASEBALL

The Ashdown Panthers (25-9) punched their ticket to this week’s Class AAAA State Tournament with a 10-1 win over Star City in the Class AAAA South Regional Tournament in Malvern on Friday, May 4.

At the plate, Bradley Bearden scored a run. Alex Day was 2-for-4 with two triples, four RBI. Jaden Hill was 2-for-4 with two home runs, two runs and three RBI. Braylon Bishop walked. Logan Henry was 1-for-3 with a run and a RBI. Brett Bond was 1-for-4 with a run. Cody Flowers was 1-for-3 with a walk. Blake Ritter was 1-for-4 with a run and a RBI. Will Burnett was 1-for-3 with two runs, a RBI and a walk. Kaiden Hunter scored two runs.

On the mound, Hill allowed one run on three hits in seven innings. He walked one struck out 14 and gave up one home run.

On Saturday, May 5, the Panthers played two. In the first game, Ashdown took on the Nashville Scrappers, the defending Class AAAA State Champions, in the regional tournament semifinals. Ashdown defeated the Scrappers, 10-0.

At the plate, Bearden was 1-for-5 with a RBI. Day was 1-for-1 with four runs, a RBI and three walks. Hill was 4-for-5 with a double, a run and two RBI. Bishop was 1-for-5 with a RBI. Henry was 2-for-4 with a double, a run, a RBI and a walk. Bond was 2-for-5 with a run and a RBI. Flowers was 1-for-4. Ritter was 2-for-4 with a run. Burnett was 2-for-3 with a run, two RBI and a walk. Tate Hooper scored a run.

On the mound, Bearden allowed no runs on two hits in seven innings. He walked one and struck out nine.

The win over Nashville, propelled the Panthers to the regional tournament championship game where they took on the Malvern Leopards. Malvern defeated Ashdown, 12-5.

At the plate, Day was 1-for-3 with a run and a walk. Hill was 1-for-2 with a run and a walk. Bishop was 1-for-4 with a double and a run. Henry had a RBI. Bond was 1-for-4 with a run and two RBI. Flowers was 1-for-3 with a run. Ritter was 1-for-3 with a RBI. Burnett was 1-for-2 with a RBI.

On the mound, Bond allowed six runs, five earned, on four hits in 5.2 innings of work. He walked four and struck out four. Flowers allowed six runs on two hits in 1.1 innings. He walked three and struck out two.

The Panthers will be the No. 2 seed from the South Regional heading into this week’s Class AAAA State Tournament. Ashdown will take on the No. 4 seed from the East Regional, the Gosnell Pirates, at 3 p.m. Thursday, May 10 at Wilson Park in Nashville.

ASHDOWN SOFTBALL

The Ashdown Panther softball had its season come to a close on Friday, May 4, in the first round of the Class AAAA South Regional Tournament in Malvern. Ashdown lost a heartbreaker to Star City, 4-3.

At the plate, Aleya Hill was 1-for-3 with a triple and two RBI. Adaysia Thompson was 1-for-2. Kenya Wilson scored a run. Vonjoy Thomas was 1-for-3 with a run and a RBI. Porsha Randle was 2-for-3 with a run.

Inside the circle, Angelina McGinn allowed four runs, three earned, on six hits in six innings. She struck out three and gave up a home run.

The Panthers end the season with an overall record of 23-10.

FOREMAN SOFTBALL

The Foreman Lady Gators had their season come to a close on Thursday, May 3, in the first round of the Class AA South Regional Tournament in Poyen. Foreman lost to Parker’s Chapel, 12-11.

At the plate for Foreman, Raichel Frye was 2-for-4 with a double, a run and a RBI. Savannah Lovewell was 1-for-4 with a run. Kaitlyn Roden was 1-for-3 with a walk. Rebecca Webb walked twice and scored two runs. Kenzie Cowan was 1-for-4 with two runs. Raylei Merrell was 2-for-4 with a double, two runs and two RBI. Derricka Tallant was 1-for-3 with a run, a RBI and a walk. Grace Gwin was 1-for-3 with a double, two runs and two RBI.

Inside the circle, Frye allowed 12 runs, one earned, on 10 hits in 6.2 innings of work. She walked two and struck out one.

The Lady Gators end the season with an overall record of 14-18.
