Recently hired as the next superintendent at Ashdown, Casey Nichols is pictured here with his wife, Megan Rose Nichols and their two daughters – Abigail Rose Nichols, who will be a student at Ashdown Elementary in the fall, and Emily Rose Nichols, who is two years old. The couple is also expecting a new addition to the family in October.

The Ashdown Board of Education met in special session on Thursday, April 5 and approved the hiring of Casey Nichols as the next superintendent. This followed the resignation of current superintendent Jason Sanders, who has taken the assistant superintendent position at De Queen Schools.

Nichols will take the helm on July.

“Having grown up as the son of a coach and teacher, a passion for education was instilled in me at an early age,” Nichols said. “As a result, I appreciate the fact that educators truly mold the lives of our youth, and positively impact our future generations. For this reason, I have always aspired to positively inspire our youth, as a professional educator. My family and I are very excited about having the privilege to become part of the Ashdown community, and I am very excited to work closely with community members, stakeholders, staff and students to help ensure the success of every child.”

Nichols is a 1998 graduate of Redwater High School, received his bachelor’s degree in English from Texas A&M at Texarkana, masters in education, principal certification, and superintendent certification from Sam Houston State University, and currently enrolled at Texas A&M at Commerce in the doctoral program. He comes to Ashdown with 16 years in education as a teacher, assistant principal, associate principal, director, executive director, and chief operating officer at Texarkana ISD.

Nichols is married to Megan Rose Nichols and they have two daughters, Abigail Rose Nichols who will be a student at Ashdown Elementary in the fall and Emily Rose Nichols who is two years old. They are also expecting a new addition to the family in October.
