Hayden Green wins the afternoon reading program $45 gift card. He is surrounded by teen volunteers. Without the teens giving up Tuesdays and Thursday evenings, this program would not have been possible.

The Summer Reading Program hosted at the Ashdown Community Library was held each Tuesday in July except for July 3.

Approximatley 75 children registered on June 26. The theme this year was “Libraries Rock!”

Some of the guest readers were AHS Band Director Mark Pounds and AJHS teacher Rachel Pounds. They came on different days.

On July 31, we had several guest readers including Yvonne Bond, Honorable Judge John Finley, Sarah Haddaway, Karen Vance, Brother Butch and Glenda Riddle, Belinda Love Thornton, Ashdown Police Chief Boyd Kennemore and APD Officer Trent McClain. Some guests read to the kids, some taught them music or sang. Big Jake’s provided lunch. There were about 30 kids that came through all day.
