Ashdown’s Bennett wins statewide Caregiving Award

Joe Mack Bennett received the Adult Volunteer of the Year award at the annual Arkansas Health Care Association and Arkansas Assisted Living Association Caregiver Awards on November 13. Bennett has spent four years volunteering at Pleasant Manor Nursing and Rehab in Ashdown, particularly as a singer and entertainer.

The Volunteer of the Year award celebrates the selfless service volunteers provide to enhance the quality of life of residents and staff. Bennett plays and sings every month at Pleasant Manor, in addition to holiday parties and other special events. Many of his songs are old favorites that stir happy memories for residents.

Established in 1951, Arkansas Health Care Association (AHCA) is the state’s largest organization of long term care providers, representing 93% of the licensed long-term care facilities in Arkansas. AHCA provides training, education and assistance to long term care facilities across the state, promoting high-quality care for patients and strict professional standards for staff. AHCA also strives to cooperate with the state legislature and state Office of Long Term Care to improve the quality of life in Arkansas nursing homes.
