Dorothy Francis Patterson Apel ~ Ashdown, Ark.

Dorothy Francis Patterson Apel, 92, of Ashdown, Ark., went home to be with her loving Lord and Savior in whom she put her trust, Wednesday, August 15, 2018 in a local nursing home.

Mrs. Apel was born February 5, 1926 in Ashdown, Ark., to the late James and Eula Patterson. She was a 1943 graduate of Ashdown High School and loved her hometown.” Mrs. Apel held many jobs during her lifetime which included, secretary for US Army Colonel in Washington, D.C., church secretary for Ruskin Heights Baptist in Kansas City, Mo., a homemaker in Kansas City, Mo., office staff for A&P Trucking in Ashdown, and claims agent for Social Security office in Texarkana, Texas.

She is preceded in death by husband, Carl Apel; a brother, Leslie Patterson; three sisters, Ida Mae Patterson, Helen Pope and Eta Lee Dumas.

Mrs. Apel is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Jan and Mark Sewell; two sons and daughters-in-law, Tom and Jeannie Apel, and Jim and Lori Apel; seven grandchildren, Jaime Skelly, Sean Skelly, Laura Apel, Caroline Apel, Brett Apel, Hunter Apel and Cam Apel; and four great-grandchildren, Kayla Smith, Zen Longley, Mac Skelly and Claire Skelly.

Services will be held at 4 p.m. Saturday, August 18, 2018, at Madden Funeral Home in Ashdown, Ark.

Visitation will be from 3-4 p.m. prior to the service. Interment will follow at Ashdown Cemetery.

Special thanks to her Ashdown nieces and nephews and their families, the Popes, Pattersons and Dumas’; especially her weekly visitors, Judy Bryan and Linda Pope, Little River Nursing Home staff – exceptional loving sweet care, Dr. Vernon Dean Bowman and staff at Family Medical Associates and Encompass Home Health Hospice and staff.
