Lisa Carver’s Medical Professions class at Foreman High School participated in a hand washing lab last week intended to simulate the importance of rigorous hand washing practices in the hopes of preventing the spread of contagious germs. Students wore gloves, submerged their hands in red paint, and with closed eyes, washed their hands for the required amount of time. When they opened their eyes and saw all the remaining paint on their hands, they were slightly “grossed out”!

They then carried on with a lesson on standard precautions, the infection cycle and a conversation about the qualities of a successful healthcare worker including their present career goals, what problems they would like to see solved within the healthcare system, and the personal qualities they possess that will add value to the healthcare field.
