SOAR Monthly Meeting

The local Ashdown SOAR Chapter (Steelworkers Organization Of Active Retirees)  Monthly Meeting will be held at  The Union Hall in Ashdown on Tuesday, May 8, 2018 at 2:00 pm.  A meal will be served at the meeting. We  are encouraging all retirees to attend the meeting. Ashdown Community Library

The hours have recently changed to Wednesday from 10-2 p.m.

Little River County Quorum Court

The April Quorum Court will be held on May 7, 2018 at 9 a.m. in the Courthouse Annex Building. Everyone is invited to attend.

Ashdown City Council Meeting

The City Council meeting for April will be held on May 7, 2018 at 5:30 p.m. in City Hall. Everyone is invited to attend.

Ashdown School District Board Meeting

The Ashdown School District Board Meeting for April will be held on May 7, 2018 at 6 p.m. at the School Administration Building at 751 Rankin St. Everyone is invited to attend.

Tri-County Regional Library Board

Tri-County Regional Library Board will meet on Tuesday, May 8th at 5 p.m. at the Sevier County Library-De Queen Branch. Items to be discussed are: Director evaluation; Board election; By-Laws; and Annual Public Library Survey.

Smart Driver Course-Defensive Driving Class

Call 870-584-6120 to register. The class will be held May 10, 2018 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Senior Citizen Center located at 1321 Gordon Dr. in Ashdown, Ark. Certificate fees-AARP members $15 with active membership number, and non AARP members fee will be $20.00.

The Miller County Parkinson’s Support Group

The Miller County Parkinson’s Support Group and Care Partner support group will meet from 2:00- 3:00 p.m. Wednesday, May 9th, in the Community Room of the Wadley Senior Clinic, 1307 Trinity Blvd. Texarkana, AR.  All interested individuals are welcome to attend. Pauley Cemetery clean-up day May 5th

The Pauley Cemetery will have a clean-up day May 5th.  Work is to begin at 9 A.M. with rain date of May 12.  Donations for cemetery up-keep may be sent to Horatio State Bank – P O Box 347, Horatio AR. 71842.  All donations and help are appreciated.

LRCTSAA All School Reunion

The Extension Get Fit Progam at UA-Cossatot in Ashdown

The Extension Get Fit Program is a community-based strength training program targeted to midlife and older Arkansans. Based on the latest research, the program is designed to:

Improve strength, balance and flexibility, Reduce the risk of falls, Help maintain independence, Increase energy, Help manage your weight, Decrease pain, Help you feel better!

Classes meet Monday-Wednesday-Friday at 10 a.m. for an hour at UA Cossatot-Ashdown. Each session includes exercises that can be done either sitting or standing and holding on to a chair. This program provides a supportive group environment and is appropriate for all fitness levels.

Little River County Intermodal Authority

The Little River County Intermodal Authority meets the first Thursday of every month at 5 p.m. in the Little River county annex building. The public is invited to attend.

Donations of books for children in memory of Remington Gage Mills

Donations of new, hardback books for toddler/children age groups are being accepted in memory of Remington Gage Mills for the Ashdown Community Library. Each book donated will be marked with a label memorializing Remington and one acknowledging the donor. Books can be dropped off at Johnny Mills Auto Repair 570 South Constitution or the library. American Legion Post #124

American Legion Post #124 at 2115 Buck Wright Road has an American Flag drop box in front of the Post Headquarters, 2115 Buck Wright Road, Ashdown, AR, for use by the Little River County Community to deposit worn, tattered and unserviceable American Flags. The Post will properly dispose of the deposited flags with respect in keeping with traditions and laws of the United States. The deposit box is located 10-15 feet west of the post entrance door in a weather proof plastic container mounted on the fence four feet from the ground. The post requests the flags by folded before being placed into the deposit box and that no other items be placed in the box. The post establishes this service so that the residents of our community have the opportunity to properly retire unserviceable American flags with respect.

Stars for Our Troops

Wanted – Your old, tattered and worn-out American flags. Stars for Our Troops is a program that turns these flags into a prized possession for our troops and veterans. The field of stars are cut into individual stars which are presented as a small token showing our appreciation to troops and veterans for their service. All flags are disposed of properly with honor. Flags can be dropped off as Ashdown Police Department on Locust Street Monday thru Friday from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Thanks for your participation. Two Rivers Museum is now open Monday through Saturday, from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. the floor space has been expanded and includes several new exhibits, some of which are quite unique. Free admission.
