Monthly council meeting

The City of Ashdown will hold its monthly Council meeting on Monday, October 9, 2017, at City Hall, at 5:30. The public is invited to attend.

SOAR Chapter Monthly Meeting

The local Ashdown SOAR Chapter (Steelworkers Organization Of Active Retirees) Monthly Meeting will be held at the Ashdown Union Hall on Tuesday, October 10 at 2:00 pm. The agenda will include an informational presentation pertaining to Health Insurance. We are encouraging all retirees to attend the meeting. UA Cossatot Blood Drive

The LifeShare Bus will hosting a blood drive on Monday, October 9 from 11 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., at the UA Cossatot in Dequeen located at 183 Highway 399.

Oak Hill Fire Department Fish Fry

The Oak Hill Fire Department will be hosting a Fish Fry Fundraiser on Saturday, October 7 from 5p.m. until 8 p.m. There will be fish, fries, beans, coleslaw, hush puppies, drink, and dessert. Come join us at the Oak Hill Fire Department.

Trunk or Treat

There will be a trunk or treat held in Ashdown on the lot behind the pocket park on Saturday, October 28 at 5 p.m. Sponsored by the Little River Chamber of Commerce.

Movie in the Pocket Park

There will be a movie showing at the pocket park in Ashdown on Saturday, October 28 at 7 p.m. The movie will be Beauty and the Beast. Come join us! Free movie and snacks sponsored by the Little River Chamber of Commerce

Ashdown Community Library

Stop by and see all the many positive changes at the Ashdown Community Library – Tuesday and Wednesday: 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.; Thursday: 12-8 p.m.; and Friday: 8 a.m. to 1 p.m., closed on Monday.

United Way of Greater Texarkana

United Way of Greater Texarkana presents Battle on the Border benefiting Dolly Parton’s “Imagination Library”.   Event will be at Spring Lake Park on Saturday, October 7 from 12 – 8pm.  Local bands compete for prize money. Added to the fun will be International Chili Society’s Chili Cook Off , merchandise and food vendors, adult beverages and much more. All net proceeds to benefit the Imagination Library – one of the most important ways to improve the educational opportunities for children in our community.  Sponsorships are available by calling the UWGT office, 903-794-3105.

UA Cossatot Ashdown Campus

UA Cossatot Ashdown Campus offers FREE GED, college preparation, and other basic adult education instruction Monday and Wednesday, 7:30 AM-4:30 PM, Tuesday and Thursday, 7:30 AM-7:00 PM and Friday, 8:00 AM-12:00 PM. Foreman City Museum at 507 3rd Ave will be open each Wednesday from 8:00 AM to 2:00 PM and on special occasions

American Legion Post #124

American Legion Post #124 at 2115 Buck Wright Road has an American Flag drop box in front of the Post Headquarters, 2115 Buck Wright Road, Ashdown, AR, for use by the Little River County Community to deposit worn, tattered and unserviceable American Flags. The Post will properly dispose of the deposited flags with respect in keeping with traditions and laws of the United States. The deposit box is located 10-15 feet west of the post entrance door in a weather proof plastic container mounted on the fence four feet from the ground. The post requests the flags by folded before being placed into the deposit boax and that no other items be placed in the box. The post establishes this service so that the residents of our community have the opportunity to properly retire unserviceable American flags with respect.

The Ashdown Chapter of the Community Awareness Club meets at 6 p.m. the second Tuesday of each month at Big Jake’s BBQ in Ashdown. The next scheduled meeting will be Tuesday, October 10, 2017.

Little River County Genealogy Society

The Little River County Genealogy Society will meet on Tuesday, October 10 at 6:00 p.m. at UA Cossatot in Ashdown.  If you are interested in starting your family tree, or if you just want to join with like-minded people to discuss family research, you are welcome to attend this meeting.  For more information call 870-898-5993.

Two Rivers Museum needs volunteers

Stars for Our Troops

Wanted – Your old, tattered and worn-out American flags. Stars for Our Troops is a program that turns these flags into a prized possession for our troops and veterans. The field of stars are cut into individual stars which are presented as a small token showing our appreciation to troops and veterans for their service. All flags are disposed of properly with honor. Flags can be dropped off as Ashdown Police Department on Locust Street Monday thru Friday from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Thanks for your participation. Two Rivers Museum open daily

Two Rivers Museum is now open Monday through Saturday, from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. the floor space has been expanded and includes several new exhibits, some of which are quite unique. Free admission.
