The family of the late Adrienne E. Butler, of Horatio, Arkansas, honors her memory with a memorial scholarship through the University of Arkansas Cossatot Foundation.

The scholarship awards one UA Cossatot nursing student $500 for both fall and spring semesters.

Butler’s family members making the donation presentation include Debbie and Doug Akin, Joey and Lisa Butler, Cecily Hughes, Whitney Sullivan, Blake Butler, Joshua Butler, Vance and Stephanie Butler, and Hunter Hughes.

“Adrienne loved being a nurse and loved working with nursing home patients,” Butler’s mother Debbie Akin said. “Her family would like to be able to assist others in attaining the education required to carry on that love and devotion she had for her patients.

“One of Butler’s greatest encouragers and mentors through nursing school was UA Cossatot Nursing Instructor Kay Trotta,” Akin continued. “Because of UA Cossatot’s excellent standards for educators and staff, we are honored to be able to help students get their education through UA Cossatot nursing programs.”

Students applying to receive $500 for fall 2018 and $500 for spring 2019 must have a 3.0 GPA minimum, financial need, be from Howard or Sevier County, accepted into the LPN or RN program, and write an essay about their desire to work in geriatric care. The application is available now at
