SOAR, Steelworkers Organization of Active Retirees, met for their monthly meeting on November 14, 2017, at Big Jake’s Bar-B-Cue in Ashdown, Ark. The pre-Thanksgiving Dinner (bar-b-cue instead of turkey and trimmings) was combined with the Annual Pete Price Shop With A Cop donation. Accepting the donation from SOAR President Charles Henderson was Ashdown Police Chief Boyd Kennemore and Little River County Sheriff Bobby Walraven. This goes toward Christmas for children that otherwise might not have Christmas. Pictured are (from left): Seated – Kennemore, Henderson and Walraven; Standing – George Adams, Diane Williams, Jack Manzella, Shirley Wray, James Franklin, Wilma Carter Crownover, Jearlean Jackson, Martha Brown, Jeanette Runnels, Doris Walker, Bobbie Jackson, Liz Lewis, Al Newman, Dotti Robbins and Lillie Gulley. Two SOAR officers were absent. They were Nancy Cannon and Charles Nettles.

Special to the Little River News

With Thanksgiving behind over with, attention turns to Christmas. Billions of dollars are spent every year on toys, clothes, electronics and numerous other items that we all believe our loved ones will enjoy. Unfortunately, there are some in our community that can not afford Christmas for their children meaning some little boys and girls in Little River County will not have a present under the tree Christmas morning.

Founded by Pete Price in 2006, the Shop with a Cop in Little River County was created to help the underprivileged children in Little River County receive the gift of Christmas.

Both the Ashdown Police Department and the Little River County Sheriff’s office have the honor of working together this year to continue the gift of making a difference in a child’s life during a season that is for giving and for receiving a blessing.

Last year, more than 200 children from Little River County had the ability to shop for their Christmas gifts. Shop with a Cop would like to do that again this year or even exceed that number but it can not do it without your help.

Ashdown Police Chief Boyd Kennemore and Little River County Sheriff Bobby Walraven both agree that your donation will go towards creating not only a trusting bond with an officer, but also creating a beautiful smile and making wonderful memories.

This has been possible only with the continued support of people like you who have offered us help both in cash and kind. To continue the good work we are doing, we request you to kindly make a liberal donation.

Thank you in advance for your contribution. You have no idea how much it means to the community to have your support.
